Alfresco Villa

Alfresco Villa on Tortola has 2 pavilions which offer spacious living areas and plenty of deck space for you to relax in comfortable surroundings.

The lounge at Alfresco leads directly onto the vast pool deck and comprises comfy sofas, flat screen satellite TV and DVD player with a good selection of DVDs to choose from. There is also a great music system and a variety of CDs or you can simply plug in your iPod/iPhone and listen to your own music selection. Games and books are also provided to keep you and your family or friends entertained. Complimentary wi-fi is also provided. The views of the BVI from Alfresco Villa’s pool deck are simply stunning.

The second pavilion at Alfresco Villa comprises a grand master bedroom on the upper floor with king size bed and its own verandah offering spectacular views of neighbouring British Virgin Islands. The shower is spacious with a natural pebble floor. Downstairs and adjacent to the pool deck, is the second bedroom which can be king or twin – perfect for friends or teenagers and again with its own shower/bathroom.

The third bedroom is even more private and is accessed from the pool deck via a stone staircase. This offers a queen size bed, spacious shower and a verandah with sea views of the BVI and Alfresco Villa’s tropical gardens.

Alfresco Villa has a fully equipped kitchen with stunning views and this leads onto the al fresco dining area offering even more amazing views of the beautiful British Virgin Islands.

The pool deck offers an infinity pool, comfortable sun beds, shower and toilet and large gas barbecue. There is plenty of room to relax with a cocktail and watch a beautiful sunset over Long Bay beach.

Alfresco Villa is close to Long Bay beach and is a short drive to other stunning beaches on Tortola – Cane Garden Bay, Brewers Bay, Smugglers Cove to name but a few.

There is a good choice of restaurants within a few minutes drive of Alfresco Villa – Tropical Fusion which has a lovely beachfront location on Long Bay, Sebastian’s on the Beach, da Coal Pot and Bananakeet at Carrot Bay, or for more elegant dining – the Sugar Mill is only 5 minutes drive. If you wish to venture into Road Town, (capital of the British Virgin Islands) this is only 20 minutes drive and offers a vast selection of restaurants. At Cane Garden Bay – 15 minutes drive, there are a good selection of beach restaurants to choose from also offering live evening entertainment. You can of course cook or barbecue for yourself – the kitchen at Alfresco Villa is a cook’s dream, or you can arrange for a chef to visit and cook for you. The choice is yours.

Between November and March, the surf is up, so bring your boards or hire locally and head for Apple Bay or Capoons Bay, only 5 minutes drive from Alfresco Villa. For dinghy sailing, kayaking and windsurfing, Cane Garden Bay is only 15 minutes drive away. The snorkelling is great at nearby Smugglers Cove and if you are a diver or wish to learn, there is an excellent dive facility at Nanny Cay which is 10 minutes drive. If you would like to enjoy a relaxing Spa treatment following a day of activity, visit the Sugar Mill’s Spa, which is only a few minutes drive from Alfresco Villa.

You can visit the Callwood Rum distillery at Cane Garden Bay – the history is interesting and the rum samples are good too! Book a day sail with Captain Patrick at Celtic Power Boats or with Scott at Aristocat Charters – both will give you a fabulous day out on the water. Another interesting activity is to book a tour with the Original Virgin Canopy Tour located in Road Town, the capital of the BVI. This is similar to zip-lining but safer and quieter. The views over Tortola are spectacular. You could finish your day with a visit to the Botanical Gardens in Road Town and a cooling drink while you relax and enjoy the sunset over the beautiful BVI.

Other suggestions are to take a ferry to Virgin Gorda or Anegada for the day – both very easy to do from Tortola. The ferry dock is in Road Town, only 20 minutes drive from Alfresco Villa.

Alfresco Villa is a beautiful and very private villa finished to extremely high standards, in a simply stunning location in the British Virgin Islands.

The Sugar Mill Hotel boasts two of the finest restaurants in the British Virgin Islands, offering gourmet food and fine wines. Dine in the 400 year-old original stone Sugar Mill Rum House where the menu offers an excellent and varied choice of food.
Lunch and dinner can also be taken at “Tramonti” – the Sugar Mill’s own beach restaurant situated right at the water’s edge. Be sure to arrive at Tramonti for “Sundowner Hour” and enjoy 2 for the price of 1 cocktails betweeen 5 and 6pm every evening.

There are several excellent restaurants a short drive away e.g. Bananakeet overlooking Carrot Bay with a lovely pool and stunning views, da Coal Pot which serves great local food, Sebastian’s on the Beach – lovely spot right by the water’s edge, Tropical Fusion next to Long Bay beach. These are all a few minutes drive from the Sugar Mill. If you would like to venture a bit further, Road Town, the capital of the BVI is only 20 minutes where you have a huge choice of good restaurants including A Taste of India, Fantasia by Georgio’s (Italian), The Dove and many more.

Travelling from the UK to the British Virgin Islands

The most direct way is from Gatwick to Antigua with British Airways and onwards to Tortola with inter-Caribbean Airways, which is also a non-stop flight. Virgin Atlantic fly from Heathrow to Antigua and the onward flight is with inter-Caribbean Airways to Tortola. Alternatively, BVI Holidays can charter a private aircraft just for you and your party. You will be met when you disembark your transatlantic flight and fast-tracked through immigration and customs and taken to your waiting aircraft.

Travelling from Scotland

Flights from Edinburgh and Glasgow can also be arranged to connect with the Gatwick and Heathrow flights on certain days. Flights from regional airports can be arranged through Paris or Amsterdam to St Maarten and onwards to the BVI.

Travelling from New York, Boston or Miami

If you would like to have a few nights in New York, Boston or Miami before heading to BVI, this can also be arranged. The onward flight is via Puerto Rico which is a 35 minute hop over to the British Virgin Islands or again, a private charter can be arranged.

There are no direct flights to the BVI which is why the islands remain unspoilt, uncrowded and uncommercialised. From the summer of 2023, there will be a flight from Miami direct to Tortola.
