Activities

There is plenty to do on Virgin Gorda and Mango Bay provide free snorkel gear and glass bottom kayaks so you can take to the water and go exploring.

Mango Bay is about 15 minutes drive from the famous “Baths” where you can go snorkelling and swim around to Devil’s Bay – another stunning white sand beach on beautiful Virgin Gorda.

The Virgin Gorda Yacht Harbour is a short drive away and from here you can book a day excursion to neighbouring islands with Captain Dave at Double D Charters, or a diving or snorkelling trip with Dive BVI.

If you wish to go sailing, windsurfing, stand up paddle boarding, fly boarding, take out a Hobie Cat or rent a powerboat, Blue Rush Water Sports at Leverick Bay provides all of this and is a 10 minute drive. Of course you can just go for a swim from the beautiful beach at Mango Bay or “bob” around on one of the floating mattresses thoughtfully provided for their guests.

Virgin Gorda has lots to offer hikers and walking enthusiasts with nearby nature trails winding through the colourful foliage and Gorda Peak is definitely worth the climb – the views from the top are stunning. There’s plenty to get involved with, but Virgin Gorda is also a great place to do absolutely nothing at all with lots of wonderful beaches to choose from.

The Nail Bay Sports Club on Virgin Gorda is about 5 minutes drive from Mango Bay and here you can play tennis, squash, table tennis, work out in the gym and swim in the pool. Finish with lunch at the Sugarcane Restaurant before heading back to Mango Bay for a lazy afternoon on the beach.

Dining

Mango Bay is a short drive from many lovely local restaurants and bars. Chez Bamboo, Coco Maya, The Rock, Sugarcane or for fine dining – the Sugar Mill restaurant at Rosewood Little Dix Bay, to name only a few. If you prefer to cook and enjoy your real coals barbecue, Virgin Gorda has two excellent supermarkets within a short drive, where you can buy all your provisions.

Travelling to the BVI

Travelling from the UK to the British Virgin Islands

The most direct way is from Gatwick to Antigua with British Airways and onwards to Tortola with inter-Caribbean Airways, which is also a non-stop flight. Virgin Atlantic fly from Heathrow to Antigua and the onward flight is with inter-Caribbean Airways to Tortola. Alternatively, BVI Holidays can charter a private aircraft just for you and your party. You will be met when you disembark your transatlantic flight and fast-tracked through immigration and customs and taken to your waiting aircraft.

Travelling from Scotland

Flights from Edinburgh and Glasgow can also be arranged to connect with the Gatwick and Heathrow flights on certain days. Flights from regional airports can be arranged through Paris or Amsterdam to St Maarten and onwards to the BVI.

Travelling from New York, Boston or Miami

If you would like to have a few nights in New York, Boston or Miami before heading to BVI, this can also be arranged. The onward flight is via Puerto Rico which is a 35 minute hop over to the British Virgin Islands or again, a private charter can be arranged.

There are no direct flights to the BVI which is why the islands remain unspoilt, uncrowded and uncommercialised. From the summer of 2023, there will be a flight from Miami direct to Tortola.
